Subject: 64.1) It surprised me, too, but we learn that Pat's office has been destroyed and I can only believe that David's friendship with Pat was the reason for the damage. I think the two men are alike in that they are honest to a fault, not the type to sugar-coat, and they're both loyal. Pat risked his life to help a dying man in Derry; David seems to be doing that now as he reaches out to Pat. (64.2) Whew, you do ask some tough questions, Jane! When I met dh, we both shared our feelings early on in the relationship, and neither of us has ever regretted that. I can't speak for any past loves as I never felt for them what I felt for dh.

  • (64.3) I have a hard time justifying betrayal under any circumstance; I'd rather die than compromise a relationship that means everything to me, even in a life-or-death scenario. I know this isn't in keeping with Pamela's behavior earlier in the book, but I really don't think I could have done what she did, for any reason. I'd have tried (and probably failed) to find some alternative. (NT) -- Elaine, 14:30:48 10/14/07 Sun
