Tania Verstak of Manly,NSW, was the FIRST immigrant to win the Miss AUSTRALIA title in 1961.

Born in 1942 in Tianjin,China, Tania emigrated to Australia at aged 10 with her Russian parents. She won the Miss INTERNATIONAL 1962 crown on August 18th,1962,in Long Beach,California, beating 49 delegates from around the world!

She was voted Miss PHOTOGENIC by the press corps and in the preliminary competition, she also won the Best Evening Gown award.

Since then, Australia has twice captured The Miss INT'L title. On Sept.6th, 1981, in Kobe,Japan, Jenny Annette Derek won the competition. And on Oct.19th, 1992, in Nagasaki,Japan, Kirsten Marise Davison helped the Land of Oz win her 6th Grandslam Beauty Pageant!

To date, AUSTRALIA has WON 7 Grandslam Titles:

Miss UNIVERSE (2x) - 1972 & 2004

Miss WORLD (2x) - 1968 & 1972

Miss INTERNATIONAL (3x) - 1962,1981 & 1992
