JennyJenkins, yes, abc!
I voted Liberal but live in Alberta so there is never a chance that my vote counts. I was in Ont during the election so it was very interesting to see how differently it is covered there.
Sorry for the very late reply!

Hi Linda: I'm glad that at least it's not a majority...so now Harper HAS to make the gov't work, otherwise, the only place he'll get any votes will be only in Alberta, next time. ;-)
Looking at history, all of the country-wide benefits had been passed during minority governments. My biggest wish right now is to have Quebec-style day care in the whole country.
One of my daughters lives in Calgary. Where do you live?

LOL :-0 Doni about politeness! this past election was pretty dirty. We're not used to that at all! The Conservatives pulled out all the stops and did a lot of damage using attack adds against all three opposition parties, even before the election was called. But the whole country is glad that the strategy didn't work and they ended up with a minority again. So now he has to make it work, because it is his second minority. If he doesn't make it work, his own party will boot him out, if he forces another election too soon...

Who knows? But people do say that it comes from the south.... ;-) -- JennyJenkins, 19:06:54 10/27/08 Mon [1]
We didn't have the mud baths, like yours. The parties still stick to the facts more or less.

This is two minority governments in a row -- pastal, 22:23:03 10/25/08 Sat [1]
Our votes out here in the west don't count. We have about half the seats that the east has. The mudslinging was pretty bad out here. I saw the Liberal and Green Parties get pretty nasty. I honestly don't recall many adds from the Conservative party.....

Western votes count for a lot, Pastal. They helped the NDP and the Liberals, this time. -- JennyJenkins, 19:08:39 10/27/08 Mon [1]

Well Jenny, that's your view.... -- muppetmel, 11:47:22 10/26/08 Sun [1]
.. I thought the Lib and Conservative parties both got pretty down and dirty.
I thinking NDP/Libs should get off the "strategic voting thing" or "ABC" -- it only hurts them in the end.
Stephen Harper picked up 20 more seats and finally cracked the 905-area liberal voting stranglehold in Ontario, and actually did well in this election. A stronger mandate, if still a minority government.
Maybe Canada can move forward too and stop the hatred.

Hi Muppy! long time no see! -- JennyJenkins, 19:22:52 10/27/08 Mon [1]
Even though Harper did get more seats, he lost Quebec badly, and he bungled it all by his own lil self, because he's a dictator, and doesn't let anyone in his party speak for themselves. He tried to copy the faseology from down south about elitism, etc, and it all bit him back. I was so glad that this idiotic tack didn't work.
He didn't crack 905 as well at he hoped, because the major seats still went to the Liberals. Even the floor crossers lost.
Anyway, he has to make it work right now for at three years or longer, unless the Libereals have a strong new leader and get good polls and force a new election sooner, but I think people are sick of elections and won't want one sooner than that...
What's your view on Universal Daycare? I'm all for it, and remember Mulroney brought it up first. I was so surprised, then, but it was a last ditch effort, since the party was going down hill fast and his reason was to get the female vote. It didn't work, because there were just too many other problems, especially with the books. Oh, and just to refresh your memory, it was Martin who got us out of deficit financing to which Mulroney got addicted, and it seems that Harper is skating pretty close to it.
