From Above: "Consider the "lipstick on a pig" line last week. True, Obama did not explicitly call Sarah Palin porcine, as we noted Wednesday. It is quite possible his use of the idiom was totally innocent, as he claims. But any sensitive adult should have realized that a reference to a pig in connection with a woman might strike others as unchivalrous or sexist (interesting how much those two categories overlap, but that's a topic for another column)."

But the comment was NOT made in reference to Palin. THe arguement that he meant her is because "none of the other canditates wear lipstick"
From http://wire.factcheck.org/2008/09/10/pigs-and-pit-bulls/
Let’s look at what Obama actually said at a campaign rally in Virginia:

Obama, Sept. 9: John McCain says he’s about change too. And so I guess his whole angle is, watch out, George Bush — except for economic policy, healthcare policy, tax policy, education policy, foreign policy and Karl Rove-style politics, we’re really going to shake things up in Washington. That’s not change. That’s just calling some, the same thing something different. You know, you can put lipstick on a pig, but it’s still a pig.

Here’s what the McCain campaign heard, according to ABC News’ Jake Tapper:

Tapper, Sept. 10: Asked why she was so confident Obama was “comparing” Palin to a pig, [former Massachusetts Gov. Jane Swift, on behalf of the McCain campaign,] said Palin was the only one of the four candidates on both parties’ tickets who wears lipstick.

“She is the only one of the four candidates for president or the only vice presidential candidate who wears lipstick,” Swift said. “I mean it seemed to me a very gendered comment.”

Did anybody hear any backlash when this was said?

I'm sorry, Mupps, but I'm just not buying a lot of your sources. They are suspect. Which is why I like FactCheck.org. They try to see both sides and dismiss out-of-context quotes, rumors, etc.

And, Jeanine, I notice you're very free with the "they" and "we" all of a sudden. Let's avoid the categorizing that you've been so offended by in the past.

I think I just remembered why I seldom post anymore.

Jeopardy Boy and family haved moved to Mississippi. They really miss Toronto and the big city life, but they are enjoying the university where they're both teaching. I'll miss not visiting Toronto. I loved the city!

They presented us with our first grandbaby more than a year ago. She's absolutely precious! Her name is Matilda and she's, of course, the most beautiful, smartest baby in the world. Her Mimi & Poppy will challenge anyone to say otherwise!
