I also read that a third soldier who signed the letter was shot in the head prior to the letter being published. He was not killed, though.

The troop out of Fort Campbell our town adopted a couple years ago is headed back to Iraq. A lot of them came up for a reception we threw for them and so many of them are so young! Many had very young children. I'm going to worry about them until they're all back home. I wish this conflict would end, but I'm not hopeful. That area of the world is so explosive.

I hope everyone there makes it back safe and sound. There have already been more than 30,000 wounded and dead. And many more traumatized.

I really DO respect all the dedicated servicemen & women who go over. But I can't help feeling that it's such a waste! I've got an ex-stepson over there now, a nephew getting ready for deployment, and now these fine young men in our adopted troop.

should NOT be squandered. I can't imagine being a parent with a child over there.
