dropped stitches with machine

HELP! I am stitching side seams to make a stetch knit top fit better but my machine won't stitch it. It will make a few stitches then drop them entirely for about a half inch then make one or two and drop again, and so on! Is it the stetch fabric, the thread, or the needle, or something else that is my problem here??!! I used to sew a lot but haven't in a long long while. THANKS!!!

make sure your bobbin is threaded correctly, adjust your tention and use a needle for stretch fabric. (NT) -- pm, 14:43:42 11/07/08 Fri
