1)Yes Johnson's deal with the devil was faustian. He, legends say, physical went down to the crossroads and traded his soul with devil. Johnson did this so that he could play the guitar real good. In turn this deal 'took' his life and was the ruin of him.
2)Hoodoo is encoded messages of field workers that deal with magic. This can be seen in Johnson's song the The Crossroad Blues and many other songs or lines. The story of the crossroads is Hoodoo and it greatly infulenced Johnson and his work. He makes many more mention of Hoodoo by using such words as 'mojo' and even the devil.
3)I believe that the tale of Johnson can be a metaphor for aspiring and successful artist. Musicans usually get one lucky break, and depending on how they get it can channel the course for their future. The devil coming to tune a guitar shows that break. But just like selling your soul, becoming an artist comes with a price. One must give up things that are important to them, such as friends and maybe even life styles. Also Johnson meet a bad end, as usually most artist do.
4)At the crossroads i would give up my soul to have a mountain of chocolate.
