1. The deal may have been faustian, because RJ gave up his youth to become a better musician, which should not have to happen to anybody.

2. Hoodoo is a form of folk "magic" common in Africa at the time. There are many references to hoodoo terms in many blues songs, and RJ's music is no exception.

3. Artists everywhere have to sacrifice many things important to them to be successful. This could be time with family, a relationship, or other ventures they might want to pursue. Therefore, RJ's story could be used as a metaphor.

4. If I had to wait for something at the crossroads, I would have to say I would want my football ability to be greatly improved. This is because I am not as good as most people on the team, and that basically stinks because it makes me insecure and afraid.
