I just thought I'd have another look at this website out of curiosity after about a couple of years of not having done so. (See story #7 on Tales of Woe). I am a single parent and I went through a great deal of worry and anxiety because of this company. Briefly, I was stuck with an expense and something on paper that I no longer wanted and everthing I tried to do i.e. sell and rent it out I was told by CPO was not possible and not 'company policy'. Even though one of CPO's unique selling points at the point of sale was that I would be able to do both of these.

I tried getting my money back through a variety of channels because they had lied to me. I received my deposit back because I paid that through a credit card. I tried a small claim as a private person but CPO's whole set up is nicely split up into different companies to protect them from this very thing.

Eventually I put a claim in through EEJ-net alternative dispute resolution. After some time had passed and I had heard nothing, I had to write to EEC HQ in Brussels to get any kind of a reply from the Consumer Association in Lisbon who were meant to be dealing with it. They wrote to me and virtually said that CPO had a lot of claims against them but CPO are under no obligation to respond to those claims....hence they choose to ignore them. And that's the last I heard from the Consumer Association in Lisbon who are meant to act under this EEJ-net policy. I have written to them once more, probably over 2 years ago, to see what happens to my claim but .....no response.

Around the same time, I too received a copy of the details of my house, taken from the land registry website but although this made me very angry at the damn cheek of CPO, let me assure you all that are in a state of worry about this horrible company, that nothing happened. I had stopped paying my maintenance and stuck by my decision. I would have welcomed them taking me to court because at least they would have come out of the woodwork and shown up their own unethical selling methods. Oh yes, the last part of this saga? I received a letter from CPO saying that because I had not paid my maintenance fees for some time I could no longer consider myself a member of their Holiday Club. Unsurprisingly, I was not in the least upset by this but I still continue to receive their stupid 'Golden Sands' which also goes straight in the bin.
