Subject: Notible alumni to speak at VFW lodge 11/11

Indiana's most decorated Marine of the Vietnam war, Donald F. Myers will be the Guest of Honor and featured speaker at the VFW Post 2999 on English Avenue at the Veterans Day Program on November 22th, 2008 - Time 1700 (5:30 p.m.)

You are invited to come and listen to this amazing war hero and our estemed alumni who earned two Silver Star Medals, two Bronze Star Medals of heroic achievement, the Navy Commendation medal for heroic achievement, Five Purple Heart medals for wounds received in action, the Vietnam Medal of Honor, the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry Medal with Palm, the Vietnam Medal of Military Merit, in addition to many other awards and citations...and was also awarded the Indiana Distinguished Service Medal by Governor Evan Byah.

Don graduated school 21 in the class of 1949 and went on to attend Tech High School before enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corps in early 1952. After serving in Korea, Japan and Norfolk, VA Don was transferred by to Indianapolis where he served in the local Marine reserve unit. He returned to active duty and soon found himself in the jungles of Vietnam as a platoon sergeant of the Marines. After almost three years of fighting in Nam he returned home to Indiana a combat causality. He also brought with him an array of military decorations that made him Indiana's most decorated Marine of the Vietnam war.

After the war, Don was employed with the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) where he retired as a senior counselor.

Don has authored six books. His book titled "Your War - My War", A Marine in Vietnam earned the prestigious DeAngelis Award for literary excellence. Don has five other books to his credit.

Don devotes many hours a week in helping homeless veterans. He is the Outreach Director for the Hoosier Veterans Assistance Foundation and was instrumental in helping the foundation getting five houses located at the old Central State Hospital.

In addition to his volunteer work with Veteranserians, Don also gives talks to all grades of school children about American freedom and the role veterans have played in safeguarding that freedom.

Don has also been named a Distinguished Alumni from Tech, is a Sagamore of the Wabash and a Kentucky Colonel.

His books will be available for purchase at the program, and Don will be happy to autograph them for you.

I've attached two pictures of Don, one of which was taken by Marine Combat Correspondent Cpl. John G. McCullough and won a "Stars and Stripes" award. It was captioned, The Face of War."

A buffet will be available at a cost of 10.00 per person should you like to join him for dinner. No reservations are required.
