Gentle Twilight

evening slides in unawares
as dark clouds blanket
mauve and rose-tinged blues
in crimped curved caresses
spanning the skies
in silken textures

my eyes blink
as if to track
the encroaching darkness;
rambling in chromatic notes
drifting

weighing in on my shoulders
come the thoughts of bemused
anticipation
as I find myself listless
with the coming night

I clench tight the edges
of downy warmth together
as the brush
of icy fingered breeze
shivers it�s way
to tease my coat apart

those muted silences whisper
as I look upwards again,
seeing birch spines starkly dressed
now blend with the oncoming
flake of white

I stand there,
eyes blinking with the tears
of knowing the endlessness
of winter

hearing the gentle kiss
fall white on darkened earth
as I quietly listen
to the brush of winter

as it lay softly
in twilight
upon your cheek
