] Date Posted: 14:55:49 01/31/08 Thu Funny how I kind of knew, I looked into your beautiful eyes, They still had their sparkle, Yet there was an overriding sense, You Seemed weary, frail, Unable to see the door, Bumping your way through, Skidding on the kitchen tiles, Never once did you give in, Everyday you came to me, Sitting, purring, nuzzling, We became inseparable, My old ’Scruffbag’ cat, Then came the call, The vet was solemn and calm, ‘Feline leukaemia’ He told me, I knew exactly how the story went, Now I sit stroking you on my lap, Gauging your ’Quality of life’, Watching for the tell tale signs, As you purr contently at my love, The next time we travel it will be the last, In a moment of administered drugs, Your head will fall, body limp, No more the smiling, welcome eyes, I will walk home alone, With only memories of a true companion. © Paul Osborne 2008 [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |

Date Posted: 18:11:47 01/31/08 Thu Paul, I'm sorry to hear the news. I have a Maine Coon cat Turbo who just turned ten and I don't even want to begin to think about losing him. He adds so much joy to my life and is at my side constantly purring. Your poem reveals the tender side of a man who's heart is large. Congratulations on this award. I will move it to the awards hall soon enough. thanks, andy [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |

Date Posted: 07:12:00 02/01/08 Fri Andy, Thank you so much for the award, I never expected that and am humbled. Blackie is 16+. A good friend of both Sasha and I, had to re-home her, and i just had to take her in. LOL. I am expecting to have to take her after the weekend, it will be sad, but I did what I could. I know you will understand and wish you and Turbo many more happy years, Thanks again, Peace and love, Paul. [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |

Date Posted: 20:47:30 01/31/08 Thu Oh Paul... this has me in tears... I once had a cat that looked just like this, all black, her name was Licorice... and she got sick too... we did everything we could to help her... at first she just had tumors and we had them removed, but they kept coming back, eventually she worsened to the point where she had trouble breathing.. we should've had her put to sleep but I just couldn't make that decision, the night she died, she died alone, was with her up until i went to bed for the night but she knew it was time and hid that night. She was found in the morning, and when i found out... i jus crashed to my knees... i grew up with her, this cat saved me from making a huge mistake when i was 13... and then she was gone, jus like that. I now have Shadow and Jasper, and they are both around 11 years old now... I really don't know what i'd do without them, all I know is when it comes to that day it's going to be very hard.... my heart goes out to you my friend, am feeling this and your words touch me deeply. Huggs and love, Janel [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |

Date Posted: 07:22:16 02/01/08 Fri Sweetest Janel, I am not surprised that one with a tender heart such as yourself would feel the pain of this. Once, I too put off taking a cat to be put down, purely for selfish reasons, i just didn't want her to go, so I understand. Big Hugs for you, Paul [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |

Date Posted: 07:31:55 02/01/08 Fri Arunansu, It can be hard to realise the true attachment you make with animals unless you have owned a pet, yet I know that you will understand, because you have a feeling heart my friend. Thank you, Peace and love, Paul. [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |
