] Date Posted: 15:40:05 01/26/08 Sat Beneath The old Chestnut Tree~ As I sit beneath this tree Where once you sat with me On that long ago summer’s day. I silently reminisce Of that first sweet tender kiss When you told me That you loved me so. How we laughed, As we carved our initials deep in the bark. Vowed from that day on We would never ever part. My love… That was the day I gave you my heart. On that sunny summers day in May. Quite soon after Under the moon On a bed of September leaves. We proved our love. To God above, Beneath that same Old rugged Chestnut tree. And it must have been In the early Spring When we stopped to rest a while. Beneath the budding branches We tried to recapture. Loves first sweet tender kiss. That first embrace. And emotion that took place Over five war torn years before. Through out the years We often came for picnics, And to watch our children play. Beneath the leafy canopy We often spent such pleasant days. When our son’s were seven and eleven. They built a tree house Way up high. Amidst the Chestnuts protective branches. I can still hear their triumphant cries. Our daughter loved to hunt for fairies Amidst the gnarled old roots. Once she came running home all excited She’d found a pair of Elfin boots. I guess you must have placed them there While we were fast asleep. Her little heart was over flowing With Fairy-wonder-love. Then before we knew it The years just seemed to fly. Our children all grown up. It broke our heart to say Good Bye. One by one they left our nest To build new lives of their own. But they often come to visit For this will always be their home. I came out here today To sit beneath the shade. I guess I’m growing old. Over seventy years of age. My Darling, You still love to sit, Beneath our Chestnut tree. To me you still look the same Even though your eighty three. Together we gaze at our initials Still deep within the bark, Remembering our vow To never ever part. [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |

Date Posted: 08:05:18 01/28/08 Mon Destiny, So soft is the feeling one gets traveling down the highway of your words. I love to read the feminine side of a female poet writing about love. There is some kind of essence there that reminds me how truly special women are. Thanks and nice to see you here again! Hope all is well, andy [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |
