Fellers,
Please check out the Authentic Campaigner site to find directions to the event. There is a link to the event website that will have directions posted.
Make sure that you can get to the starting point Monday evening! It will be hard to get you inserted into the march once it has started.
We will be representing Company F, "Jacksons Vollunteers," from Jackson Parish, Louisiana. I have tried to google info on the unit but haven't cme up with much past where they were raised and some rosters. These men were from north/central Louisiana. This area was mostly like the rest of Dixie and not so much like what we think of Cajuns and swampland. If anyone has some good info on home life before the war for these men that will play into our 1st Person personas please feel free to post them here.
Messes need to organize now if you haven't yet. Most of you have been on events like this and if you haven't, probably use good campaigner practices at the events that you go to so much of what I have to offer is "old school."
Each mess needs to have a hatchet or large knife for chopping deadfall into firewood. We can NOT dig fire pits or chop living trees but there will be plenty of deadfall, some of which may need to be cut to size.
NO shelter halves! An extra groundcloth or two can be rigged into a very servicable shebang, and if the weather is good, simply do without a roof!
Shoes need to be oiled and broken in, weapons need to be cleaned and servicable. (and WILL be checked by your NCOs) So cleaning supplies need to be brought and used!
Check your packs! Make sure they are not to heavy to carry for miles at a time for much longer than we usually get together for.
Like I said, this is all pretty standard for most, if not all of you. The thing we all need the most is to be prepared to work together. We will be in a fine company of men. Most of us have worked together in one way or another before so I have no doubt that we will come through this whole and strong!
See you all in a couple of weeks!
