there
was a time
when you captured
my soul
the effervescence
of your caress
bled my skin ripeness
that few
had tasted
but I loaned you
mine
knowing the heat
would drive you
to distances beyond
the wave

I don’t know
if there was an ache
that you could fill
with your
phrases
slow in distinct possibilities
but you lent sighs
to affections
found in your mansion
scoffing
at the gift given

now,

I may still walk
barefoot
unknowing
of a brighter
eclipse,
but I know
my simplicity
will always endure
the ebb and tide
and
not pass
from shore to shore
like
driftwood
