New Smyrna Winds

As the sphere spun
the great orange ball
bled its light across my world--- while
the water silvered as reflections
bounced off the undulating sea.

I thought of you out there--------- somewhere
and another one, somewhat like you.

Those that love the sea
have a silent connection
you can feel it with the nod of
sea-walkers passing by.

I am hushed by the sweet,
soft roar of the eternal waves,
the shorebirds, dancing on soft sand
as wide-winged pelicans sail
effortlessly above the waves
dancing on free air
casting magic shadows
on the rolling waves

this final edge of land
where the wind kissess a face
where the sea kisses the earth
where the ocean dumps its shells
where a man comes to find himself----------- again, and again!
where I walk and thank my God
for the beauty and the bounty
of a precious, fragile world

I dance on dreams----- HERE
falling in love with
sweet New Smyrna Winds

My soul spins and flies with gulls
as I turn and face to sun
my only hope for all the world
is that they may one day
be this free
