Blinded by the Moon

There was a time
when I held fire
to my heart,
and let love's mouth
pour midnight on me
just to feel it burn

we walked then
~ for a time ~
in our Avalon
and he called down
the wicked moon
to lick my tongue pretty

till the windows
born to this soul
were unblinded
just in time
to watch him dance
with destiny,
toxic in sepia

so sure of his prowess
and proud of his potency,
but in the light
of a blinding moon
thunder struck my sky
between the stars

and I could see
for the first time
how hate had stained his skin,
it would leave him
standing waist deep
in his own importance
and found wanting
