Subject: Parliman's/Sherwoods in NY/NJ

An old family story is that Mariette Sherwood was an Indian,b. 1834 Sullivan Co., NY,d.29 July 1899 Paterson, NJ.; she married (1851) Leander Parliman b.1830 Orange Co., NY; d.24 Dec. 1904 Paterson, NJ. They had 4 Children.
Ellen A. Parliman b.6 June 1852 Sullivan Co., NY d.22 Nov, 1923, Paterson, NJ. She married George Richardson, b.oct. 1843.
James Oliver Parliman b.12 Oct. 1854 Sullivan Co., NY; d.19 Jan. 1927, Paterson, NJ. He married (12 july 1877)Gertrude VanWinkle, b.1856, d.bef. 1922 Paterson, NJ.
Edward L. Parliman, b. May 1860
George A. Parliman b.Dec. 1870; married Eleanor Johnston.
I'm not sure where to start my search for Mariette Sherwood.
Hopefully someone can help me link her to Indian blood. I do not have any information on her parents. I came in contact with a distant relative and they told me of an indian purse that gets passed down to the women in the family as they marry. I'n not sure if this helps??? It was passed from Mariette to Ellen, and then to Ellen's daughter Mary.
Thanks, Colleen
