Subject: My blood test results

I got bloodwork done last week and it aint good. I have been taking steroid pills for the heel spurs in my feet and it has reaked havok with my sugar levels. it is higher than it has ever been. My H1ac is 8.2 and my glucose was over 300 that morning. I have stopped taking my steroid pills and am trying very hard to control what I eat, but I want everything I cant have. we increased my oral meds and I am remembering to take them in the morning(I always forgot before) and at bedtime. I am really down in the dumps over this. I am gonna go back to the south beach diet in moderation cause I cant just eliminate everything cold turkey.

Wendy,
I guess this is one of those downs that go with the ups! LOL! I think we have all been there. Just try your best and do what you can. When you want something you shouldn't have, pick up a craft to work on for a few minutes or drink some water or go for a walk.
We are here if you need to talk. Where do you live at?
Laurel

Moderation is a Good Thing!! I am finding out if you deny yourself something you really want it is worse than having a little of whatever it is.
Hopefully your #s will get back to normal whem you are finished with the steroids.

thanks ladies! I haven't taken the steroids since before sunday. I will learn to live with the foot pain and problems but can't go with sugar levels elevated. I even turned down strawberry filled cake at the bridal shower I went to today. Boy was that hard at the time but when I thought about it I realized that I really don't like strawberry stuff that much. Besides it was probably loaded with sugar.

Wendy, I certainly hear you. I felt the same way when I was diagnosed 3 years ago. But then I decided that I can have anything I want - just one bite. From what I have learned, it is not the sugar that is so harmful to us, because our bodies don't know the difference among fructose, lactose, glucose or sucrose. It is the spiking of sugar levels that harms us. So I try very hard to keep my levels as even as possible. Easier said than done, believe me. I read the labels on everything & found things that are tasty, that are within my carb limits. At parties or holidays, I try little samples of tempting things, then go for a walk. Eating protein after being tempted helps, too. (like a bite of peanut butter) I love chocolate & allow myself one piece a day.

Also remember that infections & stress raise our sugar levels, too. When someone finds a way to cut out stress, please let me know. *wink*
