Subject: Introduction

New to this board and just have been diagnosed with type 2 for a year now. In that year I have re-educated my DH who does our weekday cooking (I work, he's retired)to fix low-carb, sugar-free foods. He also has learned to read the "back of the box" when he shops so we can get friendly foods for me to eat. Also in that year I have managed to take off 70 lbs. and I have had a lot of encouragement from my friends while doing this. They have blessed me with clothes that fit or will soon and after the loss one friend gave me a makeover, new hairstyle and makeup. I have learned that I really don't have to miss out on anything because there are wonderful sugar-free and low carb foods available. Some of my old recipes we have converted by using sugar-free products, the range is awesome compared to what was available years ago and the recipes from the Atkins diet and the South Beach diet are a help also. Now I'm shopping for a stationary bike as my Dr. said it would help me with the final 50 lbs. I manage to keep my blood sugar down under 125 almost all the time. The one rule I was given is cute but works well for me and that is unless it is cottage cheese or cauliflower, don't eat anything white. That means no white potatoes, rice pasta or white bread. Hope I can be a help to someone and am more than willing to share any good recipes I find.
