I don't have a complaint about recommendations or posting updates, or even discussion if I'm allowed to participate. What gripes me is that this particular site seems to delight in criticizing people who aren't posted there, and that is unique to my experience - I've never seen that elsewhere.

The site is insular in that it's by writers, for writers, and about writing. My stories aren't allowed there, and I'm not allowed there, so I think it takes a lot of audacity to criticize my work there, behind my back, where I have no voice because I'm not good enough to belong. That's not criticism enough?

I don't go to the site because I don't like the mean nature of the place. I was prompted by a friend to take a look recently, and I wish I hadn't.

And if you are the soul behind Mechanics 101, what's with that?
