Subject: The Car Hater

An interesting episode featuring the bitter Mr Trotter, who despies cars because he lost his son in an accident. He has vowed to never again ride in a car, and gets around the huge metropolitan area on horseback! He forbids his young daughter Janine to ride in a car, which is complicated by the fact that she wants to be a race car driver. Some memorable moments in the story include:

Speed and Trixie, out for a ride in the Mach-5, are taunted by a group of teenagers.

The taunting teens quickly change their tune when they recognize the Mach-5 and Speed Racer.

Speed brags a bit too much, so Trixie wanders outside, where she meets Janine Trotter.

Mr Trotter arrives on horseback.

Mr Trotter rides his horse into the middle of a car race, causing what Speed calls a "catastrophe".

Trotter hires a trio of thugs to sabotage cars. A rash of accidents occur all around the city.

Trixie and Janine are careening down a hill in a car with no brakes.

Speed and Trixie drive away to take the injured Janine to the hospital, while Mr Trotter stands and watches.

Mr Trotter learns the error or his ways, and even agrees to let Janine pursue a racing career.

This is one of the most violent "Speed Racer" episodes made, but its campy feeling has always made it a favorite among the fans.

Big Thug #1: "A regular wiseguy. You like showing off for those kids, don't ya', kid?"

"Don't worry, the cops will never catch us, heh, heh, heh, heh, heh."

Some very funny dialogue Peter Fernandez wrote for the dubbing scripts and never a dull moment there. You would think after all those accidents in ONE day, the police would let no one enter the city whatsoever!

Tim-
Not to split hairs, but in your reply you got another similarly-themed episode mixed up with "Car Hater" In the episode I'm refering to, Speed and Trixie encounter an embittered man whose wife had been killed and whose little son had been crippled years earlier when both had been cut down as pedestrians by a hit-and-run driver. At the episode's climax, the crippled boy, now in his teens, pleads with his father to cease harboring such virulent resentment towards those who had nothing to do with the accident. I can't recall this episode's title, though. Can anyone help me out?

This is the episode you are are referring to with the evil Dr. Crepit. One of his reasons for destroying cars is because his son was crippled in an accident and his wife was killed. However, if you watch this one, there is a startling revalation at the climax.
