Tim-
Not to split hairs, but in your reply you got another similarly-themed episode mixed up with "Car Hater" In the episode I'm refering to, Speed and Trixie encounter an embittered man whose wife had been killed and whose little son had been crippled years earlier when both had been cut down as pedestrians by a hit-and-run driver. At the episode's climax, the crippled boy, now in his teens, pleads with his father to cease harboring such virulent resentment towards those who had nothing to do with the accident. I can't recall this episode's title, though. Can anyone help me out?

This is the episode you are are referring to with the evil Dr. Crepit. One of his reasons for destroying cars is because his son was crippled in an accident and his wife was killed. However, if you watch this one, there is a startling revalation at the climax.
