Yes, Thich Nhat Hanh is very comforting. I have the CD "Meditations on the Present Moment."

Thanks so much for recommending How to Enjoy. And Ken did address the question I had originally about too much rational mind activity in the techniques. He said that the pathways eventually address the more subtle, intuitive level of your being. I think he was referring to the being beyond thought when he said "finer energies." And there are many other examples in his writings. Also, you could tell by his presence (I saw a couple of tapes).

I was very disappointed in Taming the Mind. For me anyway. But I can see that society in general really needs it.

I will focus on the 1st 2 methods now. They seem to cover it all. The other methods just appear to be different ways of applying the first 2. I guess when you are teaching you will run into some difficult situations.

Hi Rick,Re:Taming Your Mind, I agree that it is not a great book (sorry Ken) but it was written 25 years before the Handbook and in the last edition Ken himself said in the preface that the ideas he presented would not bring lasting happiness. But he thought the ideas were still valid for developing critical thinking.Re:The first two Methods. They are the core practice. But with time you will want to expand into the the other Methods and Processes. The more tools in your workbox the better. The third Method of linking separating emotions with your demand is a key insight practice. Ken said that after many years of doing the Pathways and other Methods, "Linking" became his main practice and he could up-level an addictive demand to a preference in seconds with just that. So, the Pinpointing Addictive Demands Form is very important to memorize:"I create the experience of___(separating__emotions)___because my programming demands that ____(what you want)__."It's also the First Wisdom Principle. I say the short form of the 1st Wisdom Priniple ~ "Addictions are the immediate practical cause of suffering" to myself many times throughout the day. It's almost like another Pathway for me. Ken explained it this way; Addictions are "immediate" because they are directly between the external stimulus (what is) and the internal emotional response. They are "practical" because you can do something about them. This form is pithy and I can recall it quickly, like when I burned the roof of my mouth at lunch today...AWULL ~ Bob
