Grumpy, I agree about rooms, not only for kids but for adults as well, and that includes desks. 'Putting things away' is fine if you're going to leave it there for a long time. But when I expect to be using something every day, I want it in arm's reach.

My mother thought keeping things looking straight was something next to holiness and would go into my space when I ws away and 'put things up'. Of course, she rarely knew what she was moving around and so could never tell me where she put something. It never dawned on her that it was ALREADY where it was supposed to be. The idea of leaving my stuff alone was foreign to her, although she'd have been livid if I had gone through her stuff, putting it where she could never find it again.
