Can someone tell me why Warren Gaspar didn't make the All Star team?? He certainly deserved to be there. There were a couple others I felt that could make it but he was a large snub for the Cheetahs.

Managers, coaches and media types voted for the players on the Western and Eastern Division All-Star teams. At the time the voting took place the CHEETAHS were last in the league in hitting with a .236 average. That may be why only one position player (Bischofberger) made the Western Division team, from the CHEETAHS. Gaspar was 2nd in the league in steals at that time and I thought that would get him to Sauget, IL for the game, but it just didn't happen. Sometimes it's a numbers thing. There are always going to be snubs. Did you notice CHEETAH Manager Mike Moore was the Western Division's "Assistant manager"? Nonetheless, I hope you got to watch the game and enjoyed it, as I did. A terrific finish in the home run derby broke the 2-2 tie after 9 innings as the Western Division won 3-2. How about those tan/beige hats the CHEETAHS represenatives were wearing during the game. WHERE CAN I GET ONE OF THOSE HATS, CHUCK??? Please respond. Thanks, Chico Walker #10.

Chico (where's The Man?)

My opinion (I don't vote on these things) only - Warren had fairly ordinary stats until about 2 weeks before the break, then he got hot, and has remained on fire. I think if he had been over .300 when the voting took place, he'd have made the team easily.

As far as the hats, those were Gateway Grizzlies hats - an equipment mixup led to our hats and game jerseys being left behind for Bish and Mike Moore. My fault totally.

Other than that, the All-Star break was a blast and the Gateway people did an incredible job of putting on a fantastic show. I'd recommend the trip to any baseball fan.

Chuck
