X's Balet Sold to Mariners
Sioux City Explorers Press Release

The Sioux City Explorers announced today that the Seattle Mariners have purchased Pichi Balet's contract and he will join the Mariners class A affiliate in San Bernardino, CA on Friday.

Balet, 25, started the 2003 season with the Explorers after the X's acquired his rights from the Joliet Jackhammers in the trade that involved Pete Rose Jr. for five players. In his 54 games with the X's, Pichi leads the league in hitting with a .359 batting average and has 31 RBI's and 4 home runs. Balet also played in last night's Northern League All-Star game and picked up the only two RBI's for the West Division with a two-run homer in the fourth inning as the West team lost 4-2 to the East.

The 6'0, 210 pound Balet, played the 2001 and 2002 seasons in the Frontier League with Dubois City, and Cook County. In 2002 with Cook County, he led the league with a .405 batting average in 78 games and managed to knock in 64 runs. He also wound up 5th in total bases and slugging percentage, 3rd in on base pct, 2nd in hits, and 1st in strikeouts per plate appearances.
