Sunday's Star quoted owner David Arch as saying that the Cheetahs had not been sold, but that negotiations were ongoing with a "very interested" buyer. Attendance fell 10% this year (66,000 to 60,000, although there were two additional home dates in 2002), and GM Chuck commented that the limited budget had something to do with not getting people into the park for the first time. (His quotes were right on, he noted that once you get someone to a game, and they see first hand the ease of travel, low cost of concessions and family atmosphere, they usually come back.)
Let's hope this team goes to a truly involved and engaged owner. The interest generated from local businesses was obvious, considering the greater number of high end giveaways that were offered (like vacations and the cars). The mayor is ready and willing to work with them, that's for sure.
Let's also hope that the concessionaires (Buona?) share that renewed interest in product, both quality and supplies.
I think the GM did a slam bang job all things considered and I know that my family will be back for games in 2004.

first of all for an organization to be successful on and off the field the owner has to be involved. he just cant show up to the games and that is it. an owner must give the general manager the resources to make the team succeed. if you are a true cheetah fan who attends many of the games, it is obvious that this isnt happening in cook county. it starts from things as little as a player having a hole in his game pants for a month to not advertising in the community. maybe david arch needs to sale the team. why have an investment if your not trying to make money. because he certainly isnt trying to better his investment. the cheetahs have one of the best facitlities in the frontier league and probably one of the worst owners. investors in the league would kill to have a city owned stadium like hawkinson field, but david arch takes it for granted. just like everything else that he takkes for granted. the gm, staff, players and more importantly the people of crestwood deserve better. hoepfully arch will wake up or a new investor will come along to save us all from mediocrety.
