My thought was that a 14 year old (with respect to Tanya's son) might have some behavioral characteristics and nuances that are male in nature, and he might not be convincing if he simply steps out as a girl without some encouragement and practice. He can't see himself as others see him, that is impossible, so a bit of coaching and an introduction might be the best thing for him.

I'm sorry to hear that your son is despondent, but it sounds like, with the right amount of encouragement, and if his fears were allayed, he would really flourish as a girl.

I would definitely suggest some dress-up and playtime around the house, just to develop his self-confidence and his trust in your judgment. Hopefully he will draw strength from your support and really embrace and explore his feminine side, and you can then share a true "girl day" that you will both cherish.

At age 12 I had many of the thoughts and tendencies your son has, and I could really have benefited from some guidance and encouragement. Good luck and have fun!
