Hi Beverly: If he is 12, the entire world of sensory experience is new to him. He might be transgender, or he might just be (perhaps) captivated by some images of beautiful female celebrities and want to experience femininity firsthand. His pattern of behavior up to this point should give you some clues as to the seriousness of his revelation.

A 12-year old is about the size of a petite woman, and there are no shortage of places to get very elaborate, over-the-top feminine outfits like cosplay/lolita/sissy dresses and accessories. Certainly he would be welcome in any hair or nail salon.

Why not get him something fun to wear, even if only around the house, and watch some transformation videos on youtube together and gauge his reaction? He will cherish the emotional release, regardless of how much he wants to pursue this.
