Yes, Katelyn and Ryan are still friends -- they're both 12 now, and it has really developed into more of a boy-girl friendship. They used to be best buddies and playmates until Katelyn sort of discovered her female self, and Ryan reacted positively to it -- he had seen Katelyn dressed up in girl costumes for Halloween before, like Disney princesses and a bobby soxer in a poodle skirt and all the previous year. His mom and I discussed the wedding idea and everyone was on board with the idea, though Katelyn and Ryan were both nervous. Ryan's mother saw it as a great opportunity to teach him how to be a gentleman and treat a girl like a young lady, and for Katelyn, it was an opportunity to learn to act like a young lady as well. They still played together, but their play changed from the usual adventure and superhero play to kind of "damsel in distress" play and eventually to playing house as a husband and wife or mommy and daddy, with Katelyn wearing pretty dresses and all. Over the last year since their play wedding, they have grown up a little more -- being big sixth-graders -- so Katelyn has gone to two school dances as Ryan's date at his school. She wore really pretty party dresses and looked just beautiful. There doesn't seem to be anything romantic between them right now, the most they have done is hold hands, although I know they have kissed before. They just act like good friends who happen to be of the opposite sex. As for other boys, Katelyn hasn't shown any interest really and prefers to not reveal her true nature with anyone, although she does attend a private school as Katelyn and most everyone there knows she is transitioning to female.
