Aelita, I understand your frustration, though from a different point of view. My mother and stepfather had nothing against my dressing, they encouraged me to dress and asked me to do so for special occasions as well. To her, dressing wasn't that much of an issue as I already had a sister and two stepsisters and was just fitting in, I was very passable. So unlike you, there wasn't an issue with me in a dress or skirt or bikini.

Much like yours, however, my mother was one who wanted the children to conform to her ideas of social class and status. When I left for college, she was ecstatic that I was accepted to a military academy. When I left (I found I hated the military) I was bringing shame for not sticking it out. I paid my own way through college, and when I met a woman who I later married and had kids with, Mom didn't accept her because she was from the wrong social class. My own kids were never in 'good enough' clothing or went to 'good enough' schools.

I no longer have contact with her either.
