@Dustin: It's bad enough when the outside world does it and it makes it worse when your family does the same thing. I also went away to school and during one summer break I was at a mall in a nearby big city. One of my mothers' friends saw me at a beachwear store trying on bikinis. My mother flew into a rage after I returned home. "What if someone else saw you? How dare you bring shame on our family? It's sick and disgusting," and so on. That was her reaction. That's why I like reading the posts all of you are putting up about your daughters. If I had children I'd raise them as girls so they would have a chance to be female. My mother saw her children as reflections of her social status. My father was the more traditional social conservative values type. I suppose in their mind disowning a child was the lesser of two evils -- with the greater evil being to accept them.
