The hitchhiker addresses a message which is supposed to be understood, possibly by drivers, as a quest for a ride. It's an indirect illocutionary force. The act is a supplication/request, namely a request for a ride. It's achieved indirectly because it's performed by means of linguistic structures conventionally used to perform other speech acts (i.e. advice/warning).

This is an utterance which has a certain conventional force. At face value, it appears to benefit the reader who heeds to the message.

The Maxim of Quality is not observed, since there’s no evidence of truth in his statement. We could also say that the message fails in the Maxim of Manner (obscurity of meaning).
