You make interesting observations. I understood you mean everytime we say 'This book is interesting', for instance, we mean there are others which aren't. Am I right? When you say that - without stressing the demonstrative - you are talking about Semantics, not Pragmatics. That is, when you're dealing with Pragmatics, you're dealing with meaning which changes according to the situation. Semantics, in a traditional sense, deals with the properties of the words and sentences per se. Do you see what I mean?
