We, the dues paying members of MCOFU, are the problem. I've been with the department less than 5 years, but that's been long enough to see that we allow the same problems to continue and do nothing but bitch and moan. MCOFU, like any other organization, is as strong as its members.

The solution to MCOFU's problems lies not just with the E-board. Throwing the bums out is not a solution but a bandage. We, the individuals that make up this union, need to be united, stand together, and participate if our union is to have any chance of being truly successful. So many will complain about others, but noone seems to be willing to stand up and take on responsibility. Nobody runs for steward, nobody attempts to volunteer time, nobody attempts to organize and strengthen the troops. It's too easy to whine and much too hard to actually do anything.

MCOFU needs some serious grassroots organizing and motivation. Who's reaching out to rookies? Who's spreading the union message on the institutional and shift level? Granted, the stubborn pukes who don't want to actually get on board with anything probably won't change, but it's nonsensical to sit in the block and bitch about the administration then do nothing to make our only weapon against management better.

Let's get off our collective asses and do something about it!
