I can definitely see your point, too. But I don't think the guys - with the exception of a few - are crossing the same kind of line that the ladies down there are crossing.
He can hear you from a comfortable distance, and it's hardly necessary to put your chest on him. (not addressed to every female, of course.)
To be short, the guys down there aren't trying to sleep with the players. (though, who knows?)
The guys are working on that "Cool by association" thing which can be annoying, but it's just a man-crush on a guy with a cooler job that they have, you know?

But, who can really know what motivates a grown adult to stand down there for an hour every day to talk to a 20 something boy or to have your picture made with the same guy over, and over, and over again?

On the note of it being their turn, that's fine. But then whose turn was it Saturday? The rest?
These guys knew there would be no real repercussion for not going, and that's why they didn't go.
