Coast Hockey, LLC - Fan Face-Off
Welcome To Coast Hockey, LLC Fan Face-Off!

Several of my friends were having problems with another of the Mississippi Hockey message boards on here, so as per the suggestion of the moderator over there, I've created another board. I'm sure I'll be accused of "copy-catting" or the like, but I think it's important to be allowed one's opinions without such strict censorship. Just another option.
Obviously, I'll retain a right to delete posts of an excessively inflammatory nature, but the majority of contributions, despite my personal feelings about them, will be allowed and welcome.
It can become very dangerous to take away the voice of the people.

Now that THAT's out of the way, this is a board set up for the exchange of views and ideas by fans of the Coast Hockey, LLC Team of the Southern Professional Hockey League.
You all know what that entails. So, let's get started!

To quote Shelby on the NB:

"...if you all remember the first two years of the Sea Wolves, that's what it will be like..."

"Right now, that's hard to believe. The difference between then and now is that, based upon what we have now, we have a coach who can't coach, an enforcer who can't fight, a goalie who can't tend goal, forwards who can't score and won't be able to under Walby's systems, and defensemen who can't play defense! (I'm going by overall statistics in general of these players as a group, and they're far from impressive.)

I hope you're right about the remaining signees because I just don't see anything to get excited about at this time other than the fact that it will be live hockey!"

What do you all think? Is walby a caoach who can't coach? Is Lenny Discostandzo a terrible goalie? Do you think the forwards that were just announced, one of whom LED THE SPHL IN SCORING can't score? Do you think they won't be able to handle Walby's system? Do you think the D-men can't play D?

Here's what I think: Shelby and JM are sycophants who like to hear themselves talk. They acutally know very little about the game of hockey beyond that they like to watch it in person.

Let's start with systems: What system did the team play the last two years, Shelby? Describe it for me, in hockey terms, and how you would have done things differently on the forecheck, breakout, and neutral zone play. I'm sure you have great ideas.

Now lets move onto the goaltending. What makes a good goaltender? Obviously it's not Morgan Cey, who had two great seasons before he came to Mississippi and had to shoulder a load that would have mentally broken nearly any goalie in the NHL. But you mercilessly booed him too. So now DiCostanzo sucks so bad he can't play in a lower league two years after you demanded that he start over Cey? Get a grip on yourself.

Forwards who can't score? Velemirovich and Tozzo look like they can.

Get real, girls. You don't know shit, and all you want is 1999 back.

But please, feel free to answer these questions. I'd love to hear your genius answers.

Ok, the article stated that he went to Umass-Lowell. And it stated that he graduated from Mona Shores high school, which after a google search, is outside Muskegon, Michigan. Or you could just look at hockeydb.com, which lists his birthplace (and his brother Jeremy's) as Muskegon, Michigan.

Further more, you could check these two Sea Wolves press releases:

http://www.msseawolves.com/team/news/index.html?article_id=46

http://www.msseawolves.com/team/news/index.html?article_id=192

Or last year's Sea Wolves media guide, which listed his birthplace as Muskegon, Michigan. But since your buddy Mike Kelly didn't write any of them, they're probably wrong, and I don't know what I'm talking about because I don't intimitely involve myself in the players' lives and I wasn't a season ticket holder in 1999.

Can I just say that I am completely stoked we're going to be having our games broadcast again?! I had kind of come to terms with the fact that I was just going to read some other team's perception of the game, and this was making me...pretty unhappy.
Now, I'm not pretty unhappy anymore.

Just to keep everyone in the loop:
If you didn't get the e-mail or you're rebelling against the Surge updates, there's going to be a press conference in the Green Room at the Coliseum on Tuesday, September 29th at 1PM.

"The team will introduce a new player/assistant coach and unveil its game jerseys for the 2009-2010 season."

Maybe we could forgo all the name-calling and snarky comments and get back to talking about HOCKEY & The SURGE????????

The other board is very controlled, yes indeed. I've been censored a time or two myself over there. Shelby has been pointed out to me at a game. She sits right by the locker room near the glass. I have not made the effort to meet her, and hope I never do. Her self-love and her impression that any one of us is the least bit interested in her tennis playing abilities is just plain annoying.

I am glad to see activity here again, though. Just, let's play nice, ok? Not censored, just leave the name-calling out?

There was a question on the ol' N.B. about how the "So called Booster Club" doesn't have much information out there for the public.
I responded to it. And I'll repost here, so you all can see A. What I said; since there was some sarcasm, it surely won't be approved...and B. So the frequenters of THIS board as well can have the membership meeting information.
Hope to see you all there!
Big year ahead of us, everyone.

"Right?
The next membership meeting is 21-Sept (3rd Monday of the month)at the Handsboro Community Center, 6:30pm.
*sigh* Like they have been every month for the past two years.

This is the first one for the new season. This is when you'd need to sign up to be a member for the 2009-2010 season.

We're very "so called", though, so maybe you aren't interested in our fund raising or bus trips we have planned, so maybe it's not your cup of tea, anyway."

Mr. Art came to talk to the Booster Club last night, and after hearing what he had to say, I'm (more) optimistic about this season.
I thought he was optimistic and confident but realistic. I just hope it wasn't all...embellished.
He had some pretty neat ideas for promotions and giveaways.
I took notes on everything with the intention of relaying all that info here, but...of course, I don't have it with me. I'll try to get back on here later and updated the masses. :)

I'm just as nervous about failure as everyone else here, but I would like to own a jersey for this new team. Moreover, I'd like to know what it looks like.
Anyone know? Or is it going to be like the advertising pictures with the big 'S' image on the front.

We've got "journalists" like Tiffany Craig already inciting whatever "controversy" they can with a ridiculous expose piece on how offensive the other meaning of a word, that is now the name of our hockey team, can be. We've got people griping like toddlers that the word is far too close to reminding us that there was a storm here.

Putting aside the arguments that you people can't put all these storm-related terms out of use because they stir up memories forever (Heaven forbid you remember an event, right?); the real crux, here, is that the word has at very least, two meanings. I know that's a real shock for the barely literate, but - you know, lots of words do. Especially in English.(You know, the only language anyone in 'mer'ca recognizes.)

I'll let you guys look it up and get that rush of satisfaction when you do it all by yourself, but it's can be used as an electrical term, as well. In fact, anything can surge. Crowds can surge, catsup can surge, even feces can surge.

Gosh, sorry, guys. I really should be more sensitive. Can we get a list of other words which might make you remember bad stuff?
Because - I don't like MRIs, so I think words like Tube or the letter X should be off limits. I also saw a broken table on the beach after the storm which reminded me of dinner. So beach, table, and dinner are all way too offensive. My great aunt has breast cancer, so I'm thinking test, chest, and anything ending in -ogram might make me super sad, so.

Also, just a quick survey...how many of you are okay with the name "Rebels"? If we're discussing how horribly offensive and insulting a name can be.

How are they voted does anyone know? I understand some of the awards went to deserving players. I am Predators fan so nobody pretty much was nominated, I just wanted to see the big highlights of the show tonight. But i just couldn't understand the winner of the Hart Trophy. I know Alex Oveckin was a great player, don't get me wrong, but how does the league leader in points all season long (Malkin for those who dont know)not win the Hart trophy. I know he won the MVP of the playoffs but don't you think that a good player like him deserves regular season as well especially since he led the entire league in points. Not to mention when the team was slumping this year he still remained the number one points getter. I dont know about all this i think there is a little publicity stunt going on the NHL.

Sorry guys for the down time. So anything new. Other than the Surge!

This has me thinking.
What are our chants going to be? We obviously cannot use "SEA... WOLVES" anymore and I don't believe "SUR...GE" would do to well. I guess we can only use the old faithful chant of every team in history and go with "Let's Go Surge!!!"

What could our mascot be?
1)We could do Zuess and have him throwing lighting bolts on people hahaha.

2)Or we can use that little Lightning bug that the Power company commercials use.

3)Or possibly have a Power guy come to each game in his Coast Electric Power uniform.

This have been yet to determined but boy oh boy am I ready for hockey. NHL has been finished for little less than a week and I'm already in withdrawals. Going to be a long off season. Hahahahah.

So, Gamblers is offensive? So is anything storm related, right? What isn't? Mississippi Cuddly Kittens? Or maybe then the dogs would get jealous. We could have a symbol like Prince and not have to worry with it at all.
Maybe the Gulf Coast God Fearers? Biloxi Never Sinners? Mississippi Missionaries? Relax.

Not to mention a Sea Wolf...depending on usage...is either a PIRATE or a WAR MACHINE. That's okay, I'm sure. But Gamblers, Hurricane, and Storm aren't.

What we do know is Walby will be the coach... and that can't be good....

I also don't think its good to see him as an owner of this new team... that kinda means he plans on staying here awhile eh?

so I guess as long as we have hockey here... he plans on being the coach.... err whatever

Am I the only one looking at the prospect of this upcoming season with some concerns. When I received the phone call for authorization to transfer my deposit, I agreed but I have to admit I wonder if I've made the right decision. I am of the legion of frustrated fans that wonder is another season of Walby what I really want to pay for. I also wonder about how stable we will be financially with Thuss and Walby as owners, both have growing families. How much of a financial risk and commitment are they really able to make. I don't know the other "owners" but wonder if anyone truly has deep enough pockets to make sure what needs to happens does, without condition of the number of tickets sold.

I have heard that several people have decided NOT to transfer their balance. Anyone know how the transition is really going?

With the team, the Booster Club also has to re-do itself. We have to re-write our bylaws and re-apply with the state, etc.
SO, what a perfect time to make any other changes that need to be made, right?
Any suggestions, comments, or complaints we could use to get as close to perfect as possible?
Be open and honest. Try to not include, "This one time, a booster club board member keyed my car ten years ago." or something that's obviously out of our hands.
But suggestions we can actually use are very welcome.
Thanks!
(Even name suggestions for the organization itself.)

Okay.
I'm hearing that the pennants should stay, even when the team is a different one.
I think that they shouldn't. It's a new team, league, players, name, etc. It's not the same team that won those pennants.
That doesn't make them garbage, but they should go in an office somewhere.
They shouldn't hang over a new team's ice.

The opposing argument is that they were won there, and as such should stay.

Discuss.

I think this is just the first notch in a long line of complaints people will have regarding changes. They don't care much for alterations, around here.
I'm curious to see how people react when they find out the name, logo, etc must change.
