Subject: WHS 50th class reunion

My vote for our class reunion would be for 2013 & the idea of it on our actual graduation day would be lovely if it fell on a weekend in 2013. What was the date?

I also did a little research this week when I was able & did some comparisons on hotels, function rooms, menus, etc hoping I could convince all of you what an incredibly generous offer Larry has made to all of us for a function at the country club. The cc holds 100 comfortably & another 40 if we "take over" the lounge/bar in the back. I am sending this on both venues (e-mail as well as the forum) as I agree with Phil that the forum is not seen by all.

I went to the Doubletree (right next door to my part time job so not a long haul) & that is where we had the 30th (the adage: if you arrange it, they will come, well they didn't). The room was small but pleasant & there were not a lot of us so it was not a problem. The food was basic fare but in good quantity. We could probably get away with $45-50 a person if we kept it again to the basics (chicken or fish) which would include appetizer to dessert & coffee. This would be chicken picata for $30 or salmon for $33. Then add in the tax, bartender fee (for cash bar) & 20% tip on both & they throw in the function room. However, they are always trying to squeeze you in a smaller room than you need for mingling (standing & sitting).
The actual overnight rooms are now $89 without breakfast & $99 with a full breakfast. That is the discounted rate! You might like to know that when we did the 30th, 20 years ago, the rooms were $69. so they have gone up $20 in 20.

I also looked into the Grafton Inn & talked to Paula Skog, as well. They can do a buffet w/pasta & salad, etc up to sirloin tips, stuffed chicken, OR turkey with a salad, coffee, dessert. This would range from $16 to $24 per person & then add in $150. for the room & $40 for bartender (cash bar), tax & 20% tip for all. The overnights at the Grafton Inn are $85-$100 a night.

These prices are obviously subject to change in the next 2 years but probably not much. It just gives us a general comparison. There are also several motels in the area now: Marriot Courtyard, Motel 6, etc.

Neither of these quotes include a band OR a DJ but Paula & I decided that if someone had a really good Bose & some of the Time Life oldies cd's, that would be all you needed at either place. Paula's reunion had a DJ & it is expensive & an unnecessary expense although she said several folks were up & dancing. I can't personally imagine a reunion without Gordon & Cathy or Fred & Sue up their shaking their merry makers!! LOL! So the band/dj is entirely up to the voters when the time comes. I did not get pricing on that if someone wants to look into it.

I also looked into getting a van/bus per your request for a town tour. I found that if we rented a local "airport shuttle" mini-bus that accommodates 20 people, it would be less than $20 a piece for 1/2 a day. I am not sure but doubt that all will want the tour so I think 20 is an agreeable number. I DO plan on inquiring at the school bus dept at how we might rent a school bus & the cost. I also plan on inquiring into your requests for tours at both schools. I will try to get a feel for the possibilities of that happening, as well.

I also have some fun ideas if we can get someone electronically literate to volunteer to help out. Also, how about all those that are unable to attend having the option to Skype the reunion & we could say "hi" to them during the get together?? (right now Patti is laughing hysterically because I can't get my teeth around Skype & she knows it!!)

It is wonderful that some are jumping on the bandwagon from around the universe to "find" other classmates. The previous reunion committee have several phone numbers from the last reunion responses & although it is 20 years ago, I have not changed mine number in over 20 years so......

Also, isn't everyone on Facebook but me???? We should be able to find several more via Facebook.

I personally love the idea of anyone other than the class that is interested in coming, having an opportunity to join us. How do we let these folks know?

So, please can't we all just get along & we can accomplish a lot more if we work together. Looks like we do have a few folks ready to get something in play within close proximity. Then if others could spend some time finding different individuals not yet found & someone else putting together a questionnaire with some questions that you are all willing to answer & interested in other's answers, as well.

I apologize in advance if I have come across as a bit bold but I had the time to stop & inquire & I personally & sincerely think Larry Broga has made a wonderful effort to get us all together in a win-win situation & we should take advantage of that.

I hope to see Karen T., Susie S. & whomever is local sometime soon to get the ideas & the ball rolling. I know we can count on John & Mike L. to join us in warmer weather to brainstorm. Be well til then.
