You're right Bob, she did have a lot of class. After I got drafted into the Army, she called my mother to find out where I was stationed. She sent me a package of baked goods and a very touching letter. I thought this was very special since I wasn't one of her better students and usually gave her a hard time.
You and others probably never knew I had a third brother, David, many years older than either Tom or myself. Dave struggled terribly in school and never went beyond 8th grade. And the one teacher who was always, always supportive of him, even though he could really never do the school work, was Miss Kane. She knew his skills were high in areas other than school studies. Dave is an excellent musician, can play any song on almost any instrument, but never had a lesson and cannot read music. Miss Kane helped him find that gift in himself.
