If it's any consolation, I still have all my Boy Scout badges and stuff (no uniforms, they were passed on to others). I also remember working for our band uniforms and the first parade we wore them in! Someone said something about Miss Marcy. I remember being in the orchestra and playing for Graduations (Pomp and Circumstance), and how sad she was when the new music program came to be and she was eased out of the picture.
I remember working for Fay's Dairy, both at the farm and the plant, making minimum wage and paying social security, and now I have to wait until 66 to get mine, it's tough being the baby of the class. At Fay's, I worked with Sue S's father, and remember him often.
How about making flowers at the get together? I remember making lots of those at all the Flower Power parties a lot of the girls held. Guess it wasn't a very Green event though.

Hi Judy,
Thanks for jogging my memory. I, too, remember Richard Moore singing - and the song I remember (or is part of my fantasy - hard to tell now) was "Rose of Tralie." I have a memory of you sitting on a piano bench singing "Pony Boy." Any reality to that?
I, too, spent 2 years in the Harvey School and 4 years at Eli Whitney. I remember playing marbles in the dirt before they paved over the front playground. Did we really have boys and girls entrances, or did the girls just play out front, and the boys in the side yard more?
Do you remember the "gym" we had in the basement of the Eli Whitney building? I remember we had to duck when we jumped over the bar so we didn't hit our heads, and the ropes we climbed couldn't have been more than 7 or 8 feet high.
How about when we finally went to Junior High at the OLD old high school, and asked the teachers if we could "go to the basement?" They would look at us as if we were crazy, until they realized what we needed.
Of the three people you mentioned, I only remember Bruce Devlin. I went out to his house several times.
Not all memories are good - as we all had Miss Mason for third grade. How the authorities let that woman teach is still beyond my comprehension. But Miss Gleason the next year made up for it.
I think the "Eli Whitney" crowd was especially close because our class was the only one at that grade level at that location. Most of us spent 6 years together - even though we lost some when the "New School" opened. It was a shock when we were split up in Junior High and had to deal with all the "New School" kids who were used to bells ringing between classes and fancy stuff like that.
Enough already - good to hear from you. And again, thanks for your work on the past reunions.

John, I just wanted to add one comment to your Miss Mason comment:
I remember Joseph Fitzgerald & he sat in the front row in Miss Mason's classroom. He used to bite his nails terribly & she would put mittens on him. I also remember when his hair got kinda' long, she put a bow in it!! Can you imagine what that did to an 8-9 year old's psyche? It was not his fault that his parents didn't get him a haircut. We were 3rd grade for God's sake. I hated her for the way she treated some kids in her class.
Do you remember the summer of (I think) 6th grade when the library had a contest of sorts going for the most books read over the summer? You won but I was a close second & I always remembered that.
Like I said, it is odd what you remember from childhood.

Hi:
Yes, I have a very clear memory of Joseph with a bow in his hair. I think one time she did it because he talked as much as a girl talked, so he should look like a girl. (Again - don't trust my memory to be accurate, but this is still up there for some reason!) I'm a teacher, still, and am always very careful about what I say and how I say it to my students. I think having some truly sadistic teachers of my own helped me realize how powerful teachers are, and how much damage they can do. (And also how much good we can do with the right words at the right time!)

Hi:
With a librarian for a mother, do you think I had any choice but to read the most books in that contest? Growing up in a small town with a very demanding parent who worked at the school really cut down on my options. You are right, I didn't remember that you came in second, but I still remember the pressure on me to come in first.
Keep the memories coming - not all are good, but they all need to come out in the open. Thanks.
