Subject: Episode 2: Still sticking pretty much to the orginal, the differences are in the little things. Cheryl (NZ) would not use cheesecake as a comforter, she would have a couple of shots of bourbon. She also would have been a little more 'strident' in her dealings with Laurence. I think for me, the same problems as the pilot. Still a great premise for a show, and close to the original, just not quite as gritty. Part of that would be the way that we each percieve the different cultures that we all live with. In NZ, even giving the characters the surname West was a statement about where they came from. So, enjoyed it, but still like our version better.

[> Thanks Katiegirl, it's always good to get the other perspective and totally agree that different audiences from different cultures certainly do affect how it's played out and viewed. I'm pleased to see that you still enjoyed it though having read of so many Kiwi's not giving it the same consideration as yourself, they simply don't give it a chance, which I think is quite sad. -- MargoUK, 04:45:26 07/01/10 Thu [1]

[> Thanks for your comments, Katiegirl. Our non-cable networks have tighter constraints to work within than NZ television. I guess what's acceptable to air in NZ is more liberal than what would be acceptable here in the US. I think our culture must be more conservative as a general rule. -- Lee, 10:01:33 07/01/10 Thu [1]
