Nos Estados Unidos comemoram a acção de graças ou o dia do peru na última quinta-feira de novembro. Este é um dia a comemorar quando os povos ingleses sobreviveram ao primeiro ano nos Estados Unidos. A tradição é que os povos cozem um peru, e fazem a torta de abóbora. Alguns povos igualmente fazem a sopa da polpa. Todo o recolhimento da família junto para apreciar o comensal.
