Dear Moderators, Mr. Frawley, and others -

Although I'm not a Copake resident (I live in Stuyvsant), I heard about this discussion, and thought I'd add my two cents.

I'd suggest you go over to the self-styled "Columbia County Common Sense" board and take a look at the results of allowing anonymous posts. It's a civility and intelligent discourse trainwreck

If you haven't got a thick skin and a strong stomach, you won't get on very well. I only stay there to provide a little balance to the board and to hear what is posted there.

Although there is a little really useful discussion, most of it is quickly drowned out by cut&paste non-sequiturs, name-calling, bare-faced lies and scurrilous attacks - almost all posted from behind the shield of anonymity by people who are too ashamed - as well they ought to be, in my opinion - of their words to sign their own names.

While I do appreciate the idea that anonymity allows some posters to reveal information that they might be squeamish - for one reason or another - about openly sharing, my own experience - and I urge you to go the CCCS board and judge for yourselves - is that the loss of that ability is a small price to pay for a level of civility, responsibility and intelligent debate that is sacrificed to the abusers of anonymity.
