Subject: River Oaks Fire Department

Congrats to the River Oaks Fire Department for becoming a career department. In 1946 The River Oaks Volunteer Fire Department was formed. Many men and women served the citizens of River Oaks as firefighters and EMS workers on a volunteer basis. Many meals were missed, many family functions were interrupted and in 1964 Curtis McKay lost his life while returning from a grass fire. On Feb 15, 1999 Brian Collins and Phillip Dean lost their lives along with Garry Sanders from Sansom Park while fighting a church fire in Lake Worth. Much sweat and tears have been put into this Volunteer Fire Department and I'm proud that I was a member. Thank You to all of the men and women who served, you have done a great job. ROVFD has produced many career Firefighters and Medics. Today starts a new chapter in River Oaks. The City Council and the Fire Department Command Staff have put together a plan that will benefit the citizens of River Oaks for years to come. River Oaks is special to me and I'm excited for the future of our Fire Department. Best Wishes Chief Shelley and The River Oaks Fire Department. Stay safe. Ron
