Synopsis River Oaks Town Hall Meeting April 2, 2019

The meeting almost started on time. All the council was there except the mayor and Holland left early.

The attendance by citizens was okay. I would have expected more due to the roundabout issue on Meandering Road.

This presentation was presented by Dan Kessler. If you remember back he was the one in charge of the Liveable Military Community Project. He gave a presentation on how we have gotten to where we are. We have the funds to do the Meandering Road Project. The design phase is over 60% completed although he did state nothing is written in stone yet.

He did state at one part of the meeting that he was almost late getting here due to the traffic on Jacksboro Hwy. jokingly saying possibly due to the roundabout at Jackboro Hwy and White Settlement Road.

Some of the concerns of the citizen present was of taking of land due to the Meandering Road Project. Kessler stated he didn't think any additional land was needed, that they would only be taking right of way property. If any additional property would be needed it would be in the roundabout area. Darren Houk questioned the measurements that Kessler was talking about. Kessler stated he had confirmed it with his engineers and Houk said the engineers were telling a different story when they were at his business. One homeowner stated that traffic would be at his front porch. Questions were also asked over which side the bike trail would be and how that would be dealt with at the round about. No good answer was given there. The side walk will be on the south side of Meandering and the bike trail on the opposite side.

I questioned Mr. Kessler on the reason these roundabouts keep coming up since citizens voted overwhelmingly against them during the meetings for Liveable Military Communities. He went into a long propaganda speech on how well they work overseas and how Fort Worth loves them. I gave the example of the Benbrook Traffic Circle and the roundabout by my work at Calender and Harrison. All the wrecks at Benbrook Traffic Cicle, he wrote off to speed. He said the slower ones work great. I keep trying to explain to him the one at Calender and Harris is a slow one, but he kept interrupting just as he did to Darren (listen to the tape on Facebook for yourself). To my situation: the traffic coming from 157 locks up bumper to bumper, making me stop just like at the stop sign that used to be there before the roundabout. Then once you get in the roundabout, people have no trouble cutting in front of you. When nobody is there it works great, but that's is a rarity at 7:30am. I then questioned with all the citizen objection why he is ignoring the will of the people. He tried to explain this is better for us and would make for a better city and road. He then said this decision was already made by our city council. That they approved it. I didn't get to confirm that at this time, but the three council members I talked to after the meeting denied there has ever been a vote, only a presentation. So, we'll see what happens from here, although I personally feel the ship has sailed on this issue. More to say later on this issue.
