Author: Vote John Claridge for River Oaks City Council
Subject: if you haven't voted here's my pitch to you.

If you are still undecided on who to vote for here are reasons why you should vote John Claridge to represent you the citizens of River Oaks.

I have fought for zoning changes to allow for larger garages/accessory buildings so you can at least get the larger more model vehicles inside. This zoning change was passed after six years of fighting for it.

I was the only citizen who stood for a turning lane on Roberts Cut Off by the new elementary school despite the objections of the mayor and CISD engineers who stated it was not needed

I also stood up for requiring two car garages on all new home builds which could help alleviate street parking on some of our narrow streets.

Since 2008, I have attended almost all council and board meetings on a regular basis. I have reported an online synopsis of these meetings to help keep our citizens informed what's going on in our city.

I will be an independent representative with the citizens wishes of what they want the vision of our city to be. After all, we as tax payers are paying for these improvements.

I want to work on charter amendments that actually empower the voters rather than taking their power away.

One charter amendment I would like to see is to move our election from May to November since more citizens show up to vote in November than they do in May. We had 1200 voters this last November. In May we normally have under 600 voters, typically in the range of 400-600.

Another charter amendment I would like to see would involve moving back to two years terms for city council and moving the mayor's position to even years. This way, we elect three and three council members each election, eliminating the run off component that has occurred three times since the charter change to three year terms. This would also save the city money, as our current budget required $12,000 more in the event of a run-off.

I also want to continue what the citizens approved for our boulevard improvement project and not let it morph into something completely unwanted.

I want to push for future restaurants and other tax paying businesses to come into our city. Any land we sell I want it be for tax paying businesses or residential.

I believe I have proven my desire and commitment to help make this city a better place to live and to be a city to move to not from.

I would appreciate your vote on May 4th. Polling location is at City Hall.
