Subject: Synopsis of Joint Workshop between Council, EDC and Planning and Zoning March 23, 2019

The presentation at this workshop was being presented by Trent Petty of Petty and Assoc.

The meeting started on time. The mayor was absent and maybe one of Planning and Zoning. Citizens in attendance were Sherrie Dast and John Claridge. Business owners in attendance: Roy Thieme and his son from Fort Worth Auto.

Trent started his presentation by first stating that the citizen in the audience would have no comment in this workshop. This was strictly him empowering the council and the boards to do what they think is right for the city and ignore social media or citizens of the city who disagree with what they're trying to do. Also, he stated you represent the 7,000 people in this city not just those who show up at meetings. He called social media and citizens protesting the modern day rock throwers. So, he then went on into a cheering leading session for council to do what they think is right.

Mr. Petty then went into explanation that his grandfather was a city manager, his dad was a city manager, as he was at one time too (this guy is an example of why I fear a city manager for our city, an unelected bureaucracy).

After finally ending his cheerleading session, he cut to the brass tacks of the meeting. Some of the things he was recommending was of course apartments, hotels, and gathering land for future development. He explained how a city can use a tactic of getting rid of business by giving them five years notice that their type of business will no longer be allowed in our city. Also, if a business is in need of parking he had several ten dollar words for eminent domain. He mentioned several plans for developing spot areas instead of totally concentrating on the whole blvd. He brought up that Ridgmar Mall closing could be a benefit for River Oaks to gain new businesses.

Petty brought up the 2004 report that our city did for future planning and it's list of concerns. At the bottom of the list with very low concerns was multifamily/apartments. He thought it should be higher up on the list and wasted a lot of time trying to change minds as every one of the speakers who come to our city seem to want to do. Other concerns brought up were lack of conformity on the blvd, conditions of our streets, and the type of businesses we want to attract. Also a concern that was brought up by under the safety section was the issues with our fire dept. not being fully staffed and fully paid. Another mayor concern was too many cars parked in the street on some of the narrow streets in our city. Mr. Petty was going to take all this information and bring it back for a future discussion with the citizens,or otherwise known as the rock throwers!
