Miss Universe 2008, Dayana Mendoza from Venezuela, will crown her successor at the end of this event. 85 countries and territories will compete for the title and the pageant will broadcast live in more than 60 countries around the world.

Miss Universe 2009, the 58th edition of the prestigious pageant will be held at the Atlantis Paradise Island, in Nassau, Bahamas on August 23, 2009.

This year’s coronation night will be hosted by Billy Bush and Claudia Jordan.

and Honduras are yet to elect their representative. Sri Lanka and Trinidad & Tobago withdrew from this year’s pageant.

INTERESTING NOTES:

* Sorene Maratita, Miss Marianas Universe 2009, will not compete in Miss Universe 2009 due to lack of sponsorship and funding. She will only compete in Miss International 2009.

* Rosarita Tawil, the original representative from Lebanon, got replaced by Martine Andraos to compete in Miss Universe 2009.

* For the first time, the Bahamas will host the Miss Universe pageant. The hosting nation has never had a semifinalist.
