Subject: F&I Parallels WW1

I recently finished "Crucible of War" by Fred Anderson. It was a very interesting narrative history on the roots of the Seven Year war, the war itself and the aftermath. The whole process was instrumental in setting up the conditions that precipitated the American Revolution.

I was struck by the parallels to World War 1 & 2, at least as far as the aftermath was concerned. The reparations in both cases started an economic depression that served as a breeding ground of discontent and a launching point for the next war. In one instance, the beneficiaries were asked to pay for the costs of the war and in the other, the losers were expected to bear the burden. The time period in both cases was something less than 20 years, basically two generations. Also in both cases, the peoples expected to bear the burden, initiated the next conflict.

I wonder how many other wars fall into the same pattern.
